Adding to the exciting program of the Pre-Kentucky Derby Celebration on Friday, May 4, will be the featured “Run for the Roses Auction of Derby Collectibles” with gate time at 8 pm.

Place your bets for the following: a 2012 Official Kentucky Derby Limited Sports Jacket (with NBC logo on sleeve), a 2012 Official Derby Sports Hat, two Kentucky Derby totes, a 2004 Limited Collectible Derby Mug, two Smarty Jones (2004 Derby Winner) Horseheads and a framed print of the 2011 Derby Winner including picture of Derby artwork titled Victory, showing a dappled gray horse of majestic stature with a jubilant jockey turning toward the colorful crowd.
Also, enthusiastically supporting the event is Gary Contessa of Contessa Racing who has donated “A Day at the Races….Saratoga! The winner will be treated along with three friends to a wonderful day at the races at Saratoga Racetrack. You will start with a barn tour that includes a meet and greet with the equine athletes. Then you will be taken over to the races for a luncheon at a trackside restaurant. If Contessa Racing is on the program for that day, there will be a paddock opportunity and hopefully a winner’s circle opportunity as well. Meet the jockeys and see the saddling paddock up close and personal.
If you cannot attend the event and would like to place a bet on one of the items, please call either Bea Peterson at 686-9382 or Marilyn Douglas at 686-9707.
The Celebration is open to the public with post time at 6 pm at trackside at the St. Stanislaw Hall, 12 Mechanic Street, Hoosick Falls. The event is being sponsored by the Hoosick Derby Club, and all proceeds will be used for funding local charities. Along with traditional Derby style food, there will be music by “Diz” and an optional “Derby Hat Contest,” Churchill Down Gift Raffle and tips for the Sport of Kings race on Saturday. Tickets for the event cost $10 and may be purchased at the door, at Thorpe’s Pharmacy or from Committee Members Joan James, Marie O’Neil Ferrannini, Jerry McAuliffle, Tim Smith, Jane Clark, Jean Slingerland, Peg Galvin or Marilyn Douglas. We hope you can join us to celebrate the 77th Anniversary of the Hoosick Derby Club and the 138th Anniversary of the greatest two minutes in sports.
