Stephentown Writer Stays Focused

Recently, budding Stephentown author Matthew W. Williamson entered the First Annual Horror, Chiller, Thriller Contest sponsored by the Berkshire Writers Room. His story entitled “Maria’s Van” placed third and earned him an invitation to a reception at the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts on Renne Street in Pittsfield on May 30 at 7 pm, where he will read his story to the gathered crowd. The reading will be taped for a June broadcast on PC16, Pittsfield’s public access channel.
For the last five years Williamson has quietly been honing his craft in Stephentown where he has been a resident all of his life. He turned to writing years ago out of a need to satiate the creative beast inside and to show his daughters that one can achieve his or her dreams with patience and perseverance. Regardless of being a late bloomer Matthew has built a fan base for his works and has been published in two separate anthologies for May-December Publications.
In the anthology “Say Goodnight To The Bad Guy” (July 1, 2011) Matthew’s story, entitled “30 Minutes Or Less,” details the inner workings of a sociopathic pizza delivery man who murders those who have escaped the law’s grip.
In his second publication, in the anthology Midnight Movie Creature Feature (October 25, 2011) Matthew’s story “From Rebirth To Reburial,” chronicles a man hunting down the twisted soul of his own lost child.

Horror and suspense are Matt’s chosen genres, but he also writes the Dryan Durdee project, a social commentary starring an often blatantly crude character that would make the late Andy Rooney and the fictitious Tyler Durden proud.
“We are the only Stephentown on Earth,” Matthew said, “but I doubt I’m the only writer in Stephentown. There are a score of others just waiting for the winds to change in their favor. I hope the time for that is now. Aaron Phillips of Berlin has already written and self published on Amazon, and who is to say how many more have written and have yet to push forward? I would like to encourage all local writers to contact me, meet with me and let’s get everyone’s voices heard! Writing is not a competition to me, and it’s shouldn’t be to anyone else. There is room for everyone.”
