Cantering Cowpokes 4H News

June 1, 2012 By eastwickpress

On May 5 the Cantering Cowpokes went to Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. Our local 4H group met up with other 4H groups from New York State to participate in Animal Crackers. This year’s program allowed 4H’ers to choose between learning about dogs or dairy cattle. All of the Cantering Cowpokes, who attended chose to learn about dairy cattle. They were able to make smoothies and learned how important space is to a cow, the importance of feeding good hay and silage and about the conformation of dairy cattle. They were even able to put their hands inside the stomach of a real cow. If you are in the Berlin/Stephentown area and are interested in joining the Cantering Cowpokes call Betty Gutermuth at 658-2912 or ask any of the members.

The Cowpokes who went on this trip to Cornell University and put their hands inside the stomach of a cow are: (r to l) Brianna Royce, Emma Woolley, Christina Shupe and Sarah French. Photo courtesy of Laura Sicko.
