George Sura

Hoosick – George “Jim” Sura, 82, passed away this week at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, VT. He had resided on Wilson Hill Road in Hoosick, NY, with his wife Agnes (Jordan) Sura.
Born on December 31, 1929, in Wilkes Barre, PA, Jim was the son of the late George and Stella (Tomczak) Sura. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a graduate of Wilkes College in Wilkes Barre. Jim taught in elementary school in Central Islip and Roslyn, LI. He was a teacher at the Hoosick Falls Elementary School for over thirty years, teaching fourth, fifth and sixth grades throughout his career.
Jim was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Hoosick Falls, NY, where he served as a Eucharist Minister and was active with the Divine Mercy Group. He also enjoyed gardening.
Survivors, other than his wife Agnes, include his daughter, Magda Mininberg and husband Gus of Guilderland, NY, his son, Frederick Sura of Hoosick Falls, his brother, Michael Sura of Wyandotte, MI, and his grandsons, Benjamin and Mark Mininberg. He is pre-deceased by a son, Gregory Sura, two sisters, Dorothy Marini and Helen Sura, and a brother, John Sura.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mass on Friday, June 22, at 12 noon at the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Memorial contributions may be made to Project Smile Train through the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, 12090, who are handling the arrangements.
