On Monday, June 25, the Dickinson Hill Fire Tower at Grafton Lakes State Park was opened to the public with a celebration and a ribbon cutting. Rose Harvey, Commissioner of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, was at the Fire Tower ceremony to meet and celebrate with all those who have stepped forward to support the restoration of the tower and help ensure its future. Helen Ellett, 98, who once was the fire observer for the fire tower for 16 years, from 1943 to 1953 and 1959 to 1965, was there to help cut the ribbon. County Executive Kathy Jimino was also present to congratulate and thank everyone for their hard work. The Friends of Grafton Lakes State Park and workers of the fire tower committee and the State Park worked very hard to get the fire tower restored. It was an incredible day to see this historical event.
