Hoosick Falls 10U And 12U Mid-Season Softball Tournament

June 15, 2012 By eastwickpress

submitted by Gary Funck
The 3rd Annual Hoosick Falls 10U and 12U mid-season softball tournament was held on June 8 – 10. The mid-season tournament was started to allow all league players the chance to play in a fun and competitive style tournament. The weather turned out great; the games were very competitive; the parking lots were packed, and the parents and spectators in attendance were treated to excellent softball games.

Considering these girls ranged in age from only 7 to 10 years old, they really put on a show for the crowd.
The Schuylerville team was strong and stayed in the winner’s bracket throughout the tournament while the rest of teams fought through the loser’s bracket. Salem secured its spot in the championship game by defeating a feisty Cambridge team in the semi-finals.  In the championship game Salem showed a lot of heart and desire and led going into the final inning. The reinvigorated Schuylerville team put on their rally caps and started chipping away at Salem’s lead. You could see a full day of battling through the loser’s bracket was finally catching up with the young Salem girls. Schuylerville completed the final inning, come from behind win and took home the first place 10U trophy.
At the 12U level Cambridge brought a team, Salem brought two teams and Hoosick Falls had all three of their league teams in the tournament. With the level of play demonstrated on the fields all weekend from these 9 to 12 year old girls, the future looks very bright for their respective high school programs.
Hoosick Fall’s (Tomasi’s) team flexed their muscles early and often in the tournament and stayed on top of the winner’s bracket. The semi-finals came down to a hard fought game between Salem and Cambridge. These two evenly matched teams battled to the very end and when the dust finally settled (just like in the 10U) Salem came out of the loser’s bracket to play in the championship game against Tomasi’s. The championship game was a defensive battle for the first few innings with no runs being registered on the scoreboard. Finally Tomasi’s broke the scoreless tie, and, when they did, they never looked back. Clutch hitting and great defense secured the championship win for Hoosick Falls – Tomasi’s.

It was truly an incredible weekend of softball in Hoosick Falls and everyone involved – players, parents, coaches, fans and tournament workers should all be very proud to have been a part of this great softball event.
If you missed this tournament, but would like to be a part of the next one, we have some good news for you. On June 22 – 24 Hoosick Falls will be holding an 8U All-Star Baseball Tournament and on the following weekend, June 29-30 and July 1, the girls will be back in town for a 10U / 12U All-Star team Softball Tournament. Stop on down to the fields, treat yourself to some great food out of the snack bar, grab a seat and enjoy the action![/private]
