John Thomas Maloney

June 15, 2012 By eastwickpress

Hoosick Falls – John Thomas Maloney, also known as Tom to his friends, passed peacefully on June 8, 2012, surrounded by friends and family after a brief illness. He was born on March 10, 1941, in Troy, NY, to the late John and Dorothy Maloney. He graduated from LaSalle Institute in 1960. His employment began with Plumb Eye Glass in Troy and then continued in the service industry until his retirement in 2004. During his retirement he pursued his love of taking old homes and turning them into showpieces; he had a gift to see the potential that others could not imagine.
Tom was an avid lover of his German shepherds, who remained faithful by his side over the years. During his younger years, he was active in local politics, Cub Scouts and 4-H as well as being a founding member and President of the Brunswick Historical Society.
Formerly married to the late Bernice McCormick Caldwell, he is survived by their children, Thomas J. and wife Kimberly Maloney of Stanwood, WA, and Timothy J. and wife Colleen Maloney of Berlin, NY, as well as grandchildren Catlin, Megan, Brianna and Cullen of Stanwood, Aoife and Fiona Maloney and Joshua and Ronan Hoag of Berlin. He is also survived by siblings Geraldine Flavin, Patricia Weatherwax, Sr., Alice Maloney, D.S.P., Michael and wife Kathy Maloney, Lynn Blair and Anne Maloney and several nieces and nephews as well as by special friends Ken, Betsy, Jerome, Cindi, Karen, Dennis, Randy, Kathy, KJ, Ryan, Eric, George and Carol. Tom is pre-deceased by a brother, Timothy J. Maloney.
Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Mass will be held at a later date. The family requests that donations may be made in Tom’s honor to the local Humane Society or St. Mary’s Academy in Hoosick Falls. Arrangements are under the care of the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, NY.
