New Farmer Narrative Project At The New Lebanon Library

June 15, 2012 By eastwickpress

On June 18 at 7 pm the New Lebanon Library will welcome the New Farmer Narrative Project with a reception of light, local refreshments and a free film screening of the farmer documentary “Small Farm Rising,” followed by a Q&A with some of New Lebanon’s new farmers.
“Small Farm Rising” follows three first generation farmers in the northeast through a full growing season.  Its beautiful cinematography brings the day to day rhythm of small farms to life and paints a compelling picture of how these small farms enrich and revitalize their rural communities.
In the Q&A following the film screening, new farmers from the New Lebanon area will be present to describe their own farms and farm journeys and answer questions from the audience.  A special guest from Greenhorns, a young farmer organization based in Hudson, will also be present at the event with copies of the new book Greenhorns: 50 Dispatches from the New Farmers’ Movement.
The film screening is part of a series of Library events highlighting new farmers in Columbia County associated with the New Farmer Narrative Project exhibit, a photo and story based display featuring 20 Columbia County farmers who have started farms in the last ten years.  The exhibit is based on interviews and farm tours conducted by the Hawthorne Valley Farmscape Ecology Program.  This traveling exhibit will be at the New Lebanon Library from June 18 to June 30.
For more information on the New Farmer Narrative Project, you can visit www.hawthornevalleyfarm.org/fep/newfarmer.
The New Lebanon Library is located at 550 State Route 20 in New Lebanon.
