William C. Sharper

Petersburgh – William C. Sharper, 69, of Lewis Hollow Road, Petersburgh, NY, died on Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at his home under the care of Community Hospice of Rensselaer County with his loving family at his bedside.
Born on August 29, 1942, in the home he died in, he was the son of the late William F. and Grace D. Crandall Sharper. Bill was the loving husband of the former Linda D. Scriven, whom he married on October 25, 1980, in the Petersburgh United Methodist Church.
Educated in Petersburgh schools, Bill worked for the Town of Petersburgh in many capacities from 1958 until 1970. He then was employed by the New York State Department of Transportation in its Petersburgh station where he was a heavy equipment operator from 1970 until his retirement in 1995. In retirement, he worked around the family farm. He served the Town of Petersburgh as councilman and was a former member of the Petersburgh Volunteer Fire Department. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, gardening and farming.
Survivors include his wife, Linda D. Sharper, his siblings, Tracy J. Burdick, Thelma H. Schreiner and Norma R. French, both of Poestenkill, NY, and J. Paul and his wife Annie Brundige of Petersburgh, along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Bill is pre-deceased by his beloved canine companion, Daisy, who died in January of this year.
Relatives and friends are invited to Bill’s graveside service on Saturday, June 30, at 11 am in the Meadowlawn Cemetery, Hewitt Road, Petersburgh. There will be no calling hours. To remember Bill in a special way, memorial contributions may be sent to the Petersburgh United Methodist Church Memorial Fund in care of Norma French, 24 North Road, Averill Park, NY, 12018, or to Community Hospice of Rensselaer County, 295 Vallew View Blvd., Rensselaer, NY, 12144.
Arrangements are under the guidance of the Thomas M. Barber Funeral Home of Petersburgh.
