Hoosick Grange met on June 27. After business was done, they had the program. The program was on a trip that the Philpotts and the Brenenstuhls went on on April 13 and 14. They went to see Jonah in Lancaster County in Pennsylvania at the Sight and Sound Theatres. The Lecturer, Corinne Philpott, told about the delicious food they ate at the Kitchen Kettle Village and at an Amish home. She told of some history of the Amish people. They belong to a Protestant group that originated in Switzerland but is now centered in the United States and Canada. The Amish teach separation from the world. The men wear beards and wide brimmed hats, and the women wear plain, long dresses and bonnets. She showed many pictures of the Amish village and told many stories. After that they went to see Jonah at the Sight and Sound Theatre. This place was huge and can hold 2,000 people, and it was full. The show was wonderful with people singing and telling the Story of Jonah. They had live animals on the stage and ships that seemed to float on the stage. They had sea animals and fish that seemed to swim right into the audience. You have to see it to believe it.
The Lecturer had a poem on dairy month titled Mixed Emotions and another on Musings on Marriage. For fun she had some church bulletin sayings and jokes. She ended the program with a closing thought – Laughter is like changing diapers – nothing permanent but a great short-term solution.
Our next meeting was on July 11. It’s Dairy Month, and David Schmidt was in charge of the program. The new Dairy Princess was there. The Refreshment Committee was Norma Brenenstuhl.
