• Free Daily Lunch for Kids – We are pleased to have been chosen as an open feeding site through this federally funded lunch program. We will be serving a healthy bag lunch each weekday from 12 to 1 pm in the community room. There is no charge and no income or residency requirement. No Preregistration is required. All children 18 and under are encouraged to take advantage of this program. Children under 12 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The program will run until August 17, Monday through Friday.
• Story Time – Wednesdays at 10 am. Calling all preschoolers (and their caregivers)! Join us each Wednesday for some story time fun! In this half hour session, we read aloud, sing songs, move about and explore the world around us through literature. Parents and children are encouraged to stay after story time so children have time for free play while grown-ups browse for books and socialize. Story Time is led by Rebekkah Corbett, a local educator and member of the SML staff.
• Zumba Classes – Wednesdays at 7 pm. Zumba is an exhilarating Latin-inspired dance fitness class designed to benefit anyone, regardless of age or fitness level. Zumba Instructor Kim Conley is also a Certified Kripalu Yoga Teacher, Pilates Instructor and Personal Trainer who works with people of every age and ability all over the Berkshires. She will lead a one hour weekly class. Each class costs $5 per participant. Class will be held in the main room of SML. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes. There is additional parking at the school across the road. Zumba is a blast – come join the party! Class size is approximately 8 to 10. Work out in air conditioned comfort at the Library!
• Dreaming with Words – Young Writer’s Workshop. What are your dreams, your inspirations and your beliefs about life, and what part of them do you dare to put into words? In this workshop writing will be used as a tool for looking inside and finding out more about who we really are and who we wish to become. We’ll do fun writing exercises, create vision boards with words and pictures, make poems out of unusual materials like book spines and Facebook statuses, and remember some of our scariest and most significant moments. Join Tresca Weinstein and Amy Herring, two experienced writers and teachers, for a journey into your own fascinating heart and mind! All you need is a notebook and pen, or a laptop if you prefer. The program will run on two consecutive Fridays, July 20 and 2,7 from 9:30 to 11:30 am. Ages 9 and up are welcome to drop in. No registration is required.
• Pajama Story Time with Tales ‘n Tunes – Friday, July 20, at 7 pm. Come on down to the Library for a Pajama Party. Wear your favorite pjs and bring your blanket or bear. Get ready to hear songs and stories about wishes and dreams, stars and moonbeams and things that go squeak in the night. The award winning musical storytelling duo, Tales on Tunes, will delight with their sing-along, clap-along, highly interactive program. This program is being partially underwritten by the Story Circle of the Capital District through funds raised by their annual storytelling concert for adults, Tellabration.
• Stories of Wonder and Magic with Frank-Lee Speaking – Monday, July 23, at 2 pm. Dee Ellen Lee and Frank Wind are tandem storytellers who perform for all ages – two tellers – three different styles. Their repertoire consists of folktales and original stories tailored to please children ages 6 to 10, but all ages will enjoy the performance. Come join the fun as Dee and Frank take us on a journey filled with the wonder and magic of storytelling.
• What’s the Scoop? – Wednesday, July 25, at 10:30 am. The Scotia-Glenville Children’s Museum visits the Library and presents an interesting program all about ice cream. Top it off with a hands-on experience of making this sweet treat. Reservations are requested.
• Family Movie Night – Friday, July 27, at 6:30 pm. We will show the recently released “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.” The new journey begins with a coded distress signal from a mysterious island where no island should exist – a place of strange life forms, mountains of gold, deadly volcanoes and more than one astonishing secret. The characters must find the island, rescue its lone inhabitant and escape before seismic shockwaves force the island under the sea and bury its treasures forever. This movie is rated PG. Popcorn and juice will be served. This event is free, and the public is welcome!
