Marion Thomas Adams

July 27, 2012 By eastwickpress

Stephentown – Marion Thomas Adams, 83, of NY Route 22, Stephentown, NY, passed away on Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at the Whittier Nursing Center in Ghent, NY.
Born in Pittsfield, MA, on May 9,1929, she was the daughter of the late Frank Thomas and Rose Merritt Thomas, both of Stephentown. She was the wife of the late Myron Wesley “Wes” Adams, Sr., whom she married on September 10, 1949, in Berlin, NY.
She is survived by her children Myron Wesley Adams, Jr. and wife Junie of Stephentown, Audrey A. Clough of Old Chatham, NY, and Andrew A. Adams and Scott T. Adams, both of Stephentown, her grandchildren, Jodi Clough-Desouza, Cameron Clough, Amy Clemo and Sara Hurd and Jacob, Kyrsten and Whitney Adams, and her great-grandchildren, Eliza Hurd, Curtis Adams, Kyle Clough, Conner Rougeau and Tabitha Hurd.
Marion was a lifelong resident of the area and attended Berlin schools. She graduated from high school in June of 1946. After high school, she attended and graduated from Mildred Elley Business School in Albany, NY.
Adams, most happy when working and serving the community, worked for 25 plus years for the Berlin Central School as a secretary.  She retired from Berlin Central School in 1985. She was a former member of both the Berlin Volunteer Fire Department and the Berlin Rescue Squad. She was also active in local politics as a member of the election board and the Democratic Party.
She spent her retirement mowing her lawn, caring for her husband until his passing in 2002, drinking coffee and, of course, smoking cigarettes. Sadly, her beloved cigarettes were taken away due to COPD. Marion continued to live out her retirement at home until February of 2012. It was then that she moved to Whittier Nursing Center, where she passed peacefully on Wednesday, July 18, at 5:30 am.
The family wishes to thank the caregivers for their continued support and love. If not for her dedicated caregivers, Andrew A. Adams, Audrey A. Clough, Jodi Clough-Desouza, Lori Green and Patrick and Sara Hurd, Adams would not have been able to stay in her home and enjoy her final year filled with chocolate donuts, old time westerns and “front porch sitting” with her cherished cat, Mickey (1 and 2).
It was the wish of Marion and her family that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Stephentown Rescue Squad, 396 State Route 43, Stephentown, NY, 12168, or The Community Hospice of Columbia/Greene, 47 Liberty Street, Catskill, NY, 12414.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Mario Grimaldi Funeral Home, 25 Railroad Avenue, Chatham, NY, 12037. Graveside services will be held in the Berlin Baptist Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
