Don’t Miss The Excitement At The Stephentown Memorial Library

Free Daily Lunch For Kids Through August 17
The Stephentown Library is pleased to have been chosen as an open feeding site through this federally funded lunch program. We will be serving a healthy bag lunch each weekday from 12 to 1 pm in the community room. There is no charge and no income or residency requirement. No preregistration is required. All children 18 and under are encouraged to take advantage of this program. Children under 12 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The program will run until August 17, Monday through Friday.
• Story Time – Wednesdays at 10 am – calling all preschoolers (and their caregivers). Join us each Wednesday for some story time fun. In this half-hour session, we read aloud, sing songs, move about and explore the world around us through literature. Parents and children are encouraged to stay after story time so children have time for free play while grown-ups browse for books and socialize. Story Time is led by Rebekkah Corbett, a local educator and member of the SML staff.
• Zumba Classes – weekly on Wednesdays at 7 pm. Zumba is an exhilarating Latin inspired dance fitness class designed to benefit anyone, regardless of age or fitness level. Zumba Instructor Kim Conley is also a certified Kripalu yoga teacher, Pilates instructor and personal trainer who works with people of every age and ability all over the Berkshires. She will lead us in a one hour weekly class. Each class costs $5 per participant. Class will be held in the main room of SML. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes. There is additional parking at the school across the road. Zumba is a blast – Come join the party. Class size is approximately 8-10. Work out in air conditioned comfort at the Library.
• The Art of Amigurumi – Thursday, August 16, at 1:30 pm. You may have never heard of amigurumi. It’s the Japanese word that means knitted or crocheted doll and it incorporates Japanese anime styling to make distinctive looking dolls. Amigurumi is the art of crocheting stuffed toys. They are easy to make and adorable. In this workshop, whether you already know how to crochet or not, you’ll learn how to create your own fabulous amigurumi creatures. Phoebe Allardice has been doing amigurumi for many years and is eager to share her skills with others. The public is welcome; reservations are requested.
• T-shirt Revamp Camp – Tuesday, August 21, at 2 pm – presented by Kathryn Hunt. Redesign, restyle, recycle! Learn basic techniques to revamp any T-shirt. Bring along a few old and unwanted T-shirts and go home with a new and stylish creation. Registration is requested.
• Oral Interpretation Workshop- Thursday, August 23, at 1:30 pm. If you like to act and like books, try this workshop in Oral Interpretation – dramatic performances of stories – which is both a competitive and a fun activity. Corbin Allardice, who has competed in the New York State Oral Interpretation championship, will teach you about the form and help you develop your own performance. Reservations appreciated, but not required.
• Drop-in Crafts with Heather Ryder – Duct Tape Wallets – Tuesday, August 28, at 2 pm. Summer is winding down and you may have an afternoon with nothing to do. Come join us at the Library for a craft program! All ages are welcome, and all supplies are provided. Heather Ryder will lead you in creating fun wallets using duct tape in a variety of colors and patterns. Be creative and make a nice wallet for yourself or for a gift. No registration is necessary. Bring a friend and have some fun.
• Judy Saks presents Portraits in Poetry – Thursday, August 30, at 7 pm. For this program Judy will present English and American works dating from the 16th to the 21st centuries and discuss their context and meaning. Judy Saks received her Ph.D. in Victorian Literature from the City University of New York (CUNY) in 1975. For many years she has taught English in New York City high schools and colleges. Following her retirement, Judy has been lecturing on poetry. If there is sufficient interest, a second session will be offered in September. The public is welcome and refreshments will be served. Reservations are appreciated but not required.
