If you live or have a business on Route 43 or Route 22 in or near downtown Stephentown and would be interested in planting daffodils along the road as a Town beautification effort, Sustainable Stephentown will give away thousands of bulbs for free thanks to a Town resident’s generous donation. The bulbs will be available for fall planting so that the Town blooms in the spring.
The daffodil planting project is one of Sustainable Stephentown’s many projects. Sustainable Stephentown is a gathering of Town residents and others interested in finding ways to revitalize Stephentown. Its mission is to create a vibrant and sustainable community with local businesses, jobs, services and recreational opportunities while preserving the beauty and rural character of the Town. In addition to the daffodil planting project, Sustainable Stephentown is working on developing a walking/fishing trail, attracting a grocery store, finding a re-use for the local school, bringing jobs, services and stores back to Town and generally re-invigorating the Town.
If you are interested in participating in the daffodil planting or in working with Sustainable Stephentown on any of the other efforts to reinvigorate Stephentown, contact Kevin Carpenter at 733-0290 or email treeguy@taconic.net. All are welcome to participate in Sustainable Stephentown.
Sustainable Stephentown meets on the third Thursday of each month at the Stephentown Memorial Library at 7 pm. The next meeting is August 16.
