Gretchen Nolet

August 17, 2012 By eastwickpress

Hoosick Falls – Gretchen Rose Graves Nolet, 65, died on Sunday, August 12, 2012, after a long illness, surrounded by her loving friends and family.
Born on August 8, 1947, she was the daughter of the late John and Marion (Bolster) Graves and was raised in Manchester, VT.
Gretchen worked for many years at Dorset (VT) Nursing as a home health aid.  She later worked at the Equinox Hotel in Manchester for several years before she went to work at Stratton Mountain, where she was the Housekeeping Supervisor for sixteen years before retiring due to illness. She was known by all “to say it how it was” and was loved by many for doing so. Gretchen never turned anyone away who needed a helping hand. She was known as Gretch, Auntie Itch, Nana or Mom by most of her family. She loved a bargain and would often go to tag sales and flea markets. Her ultimate joy was spending time with her family and her cats. She was a hard working single mother who raised her girls and often put her own needs last.
Survivors include her daughters, Marty Nolet and fiance Scott Cummings of White Creek, NY, and Kelly McGarvin and husband Ray of Hoosick Falls, NY, her grandchildren, Ashley, Lindsay, Kylie, Logan, Liam, Christian, Timothy and Morgan, and her cat, Fiona. Gretchen is also survived by her brother, John Graves of Pownal, VT, and Peter Graves’ wife Louise of Newburyport, MA, her sister, Marty Starr and husband Malcolm of Providence, RI, her sister-in-law, Myra Graves of Bennington, VT, and many loving nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Gretchen’s life is being held on Thursday, August 16, at the Back Street Saloon on Water Street in Hoosick Falls from 6 to 8 pm.  Graveside services are Friday, August 17, at 11 am at the Factory Point Cemetery in Manchester, VT.  Arrangements are under the care of the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, NY.
