The Board reviewed the materials it had received from the Hoosick Zoning Board of Appeals regarding a scrap metal recycling facility planned for two of the original Bennington Paperboard buildings and the one mobile unit office located on Route 67 in Walloomsac.
[private]Paul Miller attended the meeting on behalf of owner William Brownell to answer any questions. The facility will be used to receive automobiles and other metals to be recycled. All the work will be conducted in the buildings, which are designed to prevent environmental spillage. The Board reviewed the ZBA’s environmental study and waived a Public Hearing as one had already been held. Board members noted that should there be any major changes in the operation, such as use of the railroad, the company would have to come before the Board again. Otherwise, the project was approved.
Dollar General Store
Engineer Lawrence Marshall of Mercurio Horton Tarolli of Pine Bush, NY, came before the Town of Hoosick Planning Board on Monday evening, August 20, with the final details for a Dollar General Store to be located on the ERC Warehouse site on Route 22. The plans include removing the existing buildings and replacing them with a new 9,100 square foot structure. A letter from the County informed the Board that the Store had no major impact on its plans. Marshall said he had met with the Health Dept. regarding the plunge pool and the Dept. recommended that maintenance be performed on the pool every few years. Marshall said the Building Inspector had told him there were no height restrictions on a sign. The Board approved the proposal. When he was asked when construction would begin, Marshall responded that it should be soon as “we’re competing with the guys [Family Dollar] down the road.” The deal on the land has yet to be closed.
Holzer Warehouse
Representatives of Jenny Holzer addressed the Board regarding a pole barn style warehouse for art work and stone sculptures to be constructed on almost 30 acres of property owned by Holzer on Hill Road. The old cow barn will be removed, and the two pre-fab garages will be relocated. The 56 foot wide by 128 foot long pole barn will be placed behind the two garages and will be 29 feet high. It will be divided into two parts, one part with 5,000 square feet, the other with 2,000 square feet. The Board reviewed all the materials received from the Town of Hoosick Zoning Board of Appeals, including the environmental impact statement and waived a Public Hearing as one had already been held. The project was approved.
