Joan Perry

North Hoosick – Joan Bortell Perry, 77, passed away on Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at her residence on Cobble Hill Road in North Hoosick, NY.  She had resided there with her husband, Dennis Perry.
Born on October 13, 1934, in Philadelphia, PA, Joan was the daughter of the late Royce and Mary (Lyons) Bortell.  She graduated from Wilson High School in West Lawn, PA, Kutztown University in Kutztown, PA, and received her Master’s degree from North Adams State College in North Adams, MA.  She taught school in South Carolina and New Jersey before going to Hoosick Falls Central School, where she taught from 1976 until 1999.
Joan was an original member of the White Creek Planning Board. She served as Chairwoman from 1978 through 1980.  She was also Chairwoman of the Rosewood Cemetery in White Creek.
Survivors, other than her husband, include her son, Alex Perry, grandchildren, Allison, Megan and Amy Perry, all of North Hoosick, NY, sisters Moria McCree and Barbara Forsyth, both of Florida, and Patricia Siedschlag of Colorado.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, August 24, at 10:30 am from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main St. in Hoosick Falls.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation at Hoosick Falls through the funeral home.
