Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics is this year’s Title Sponsor for the Hoosic River Bike Ride. Almost 200 bicyclists participate in the annual event, which is sponsored by the Hoosic River Watershed Association (HooRWA). The ride has four different routes of various lengths and degrees of difficulty which allow riders to explore the Vermont, Massachusetts and New York watersheds, farms, forests, covered bridges and historic settlements via mostly secondary back roads. [private]This year’s ride begins and ends at Southern Vermont College in Bennington, VT, on Saturday, August 25. A post-ride picnic is a popular conclusion to the day’s exertions. “We are very grateful for the support of Saint-Gobain and appreciate their commitment to our event and watershed programs,” said HooRWA Executive Director Steve McMahon.
In presenting McMahon with the $1,000 check, Hoosick Falls Plant Manager Philip Guy said the vision and principals of SaintGobain worldwide are to implement conservation efforts at all its sites. Saint-Gobain has plants in 64 countries and is the 50th largest company in the world. The company traces its beginnings back to Paris in 1665.

Saint-Gobain’s generous contribution to the ride will go to support HooRWA’s education, restoration and advocacy programs. They include the Hoosic River Greenway, on which HooRWA and the Village of Hoosick Falls have collaborated since 2005. The southern segment of the Greenway was recently resurfaced and is now open for biking, jogging, walking and other non-motorized recreation. The Saint-Gobain plant sits adjacent to the Hoosic River

Greenway.
