Gerald Schwartz

September 14, 2012 By eastwickpress

Hoosick – Gerald Schwartz, 75, passed away suddenly on Friday, September 7, 2012, at his residence on Shingle Hollow Road in Hoosick, NY. He had resided there with his wife of fifty-three years, Carol (Farrara) Schwartz.
The son of the late Nathan and Bella (Tobin) Schwartz, Gerald was born on March 20, 1937, in Brooklyn, NY. Gerald was a proud veteran of the United States Army and upon returning from service he moved to Miami, FL, where he met Carol. They moved to Hoosick in 1966 and immediately became active members in the community. Gerald was a Past Exalted Ruler of the BPOE #178. He was a prolific gardener, and many enjoyed his bounty. As a well known NY Jets fan, friends gathered often with him to watch Jets games in front of his television.
Survivors, other than his wife Carol, include his sons, Steven and Dominick Schwartz and Steven’s longtime companion Sandra Weatherwax, his daughter, Julie Hyde and husband Edward, and his grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Ryan Hyde and Jordan Schwartz, all of Hoosick Falls, and his brother, Harvey Schwartz of Miami.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Academy through the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, New York.
