Girl Scout Spelunking Adventure

September 28, 2012 By eastwickpress

submitted by Sue Cass
Stephentown Senior Girl scout Troop 1120 recently spent the afternoon crawling, climbing and swimming through deep underground caves during a spelunking adventure at the Natural Stone Bridge Caves in Pottersville, NY.
[private]Meghyn Bowen, Libby Cass, Nicole Cure, Lacey D’Alessio, Katie Gallucci and Anna Prescott can attest to the tour guide’s description of a “rigorous 3 to 4 hour crawl and climb on wet, muddy and rough rock” as they worked together  to meet the challenge of this rare geologic wonder which boasts the largest natural marble cave entrance in the East, measuring  up to 180′ wide and 62′ high.
This trip is the last adventure for this troop of high school girls who have spent the past eleven years earning badges, performing community service, camping and traveling together. Their day ended with dinner at the Moose Tooth Grill Restaurant in Lake George where they  reminisced  about good scouting times like sleeping in a tent with a wolf spider named “Harry,” visiting New York City on the coldest day of the year, palm reading in Salem, baking cookies in a cardboard box and cooking a turkey in a garbage can, just to name a few.
