HAYC3 Plans Third Annual Community Walk For Suicide Prevention

September 28, 2012 By eastwickpress

Suicide is the third leading cause of death among teens and young adults in the United States. Hoosick has seen its share of these tragedies over the years.  This evening gives our community the opportunity to support families who have suffered from a suicide and the opportunity for suffering families to feel the communal embrace.
Last year more than 500 people participated in our second annual community suicide prevention walk. The event was very moving and meaningful to those touched directly and indirectly by suicide. Several people who tragically lost loved ones decades ago turned out to be part of this walk to save lives.
The community is invited to walk with us again on Sunday, October 7 to raise awareness about depression and suicide, to advocate for mental health issues and to assist survivors of suicide loss in the recent and distant past.
Walkers should gather in Wood Memorial Park at 5:30 pm where luminaries will be distributed. The walk will begin at 6 pm. St. Mark’s Church will provide a free dinner for walkers afterward. The Church will also be open for a time of fellowship and sharing after the walk.
For more information, call HAYC3 at 518-686-9050.
