The New York State Police in Brunswick, are investigating a hit and run accident that occurred on State Route 22 near the former Baker’s Nursery in Hoosick early Monday morning, September 3. The Hoosick Rescue Squad, Hoosick Falls Fire Department, Hoosick Falls Police Department and the State Police responded to the scene.
[private]The victim, Matthew Ratelle, 39 years old, from Petersburgh, was riding his bicycle northbound on the right shoulder when he was struck from behind by a northbound vehicle. The victim was thrown onto a grassy area, approximately 30 yards north from where he was struck. Ratelle suffered massive trauma, despite wearing a helmet, and was transported by ambulance to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington and then airlifted to Albany Medical Center. He is listed in critical condition.
The driver of the vehicle, Becky Goodermote, 37 years old, from Hoosick Falls, left the scene without contacting authorities. Goodermote and the vehicle were located when a concerned family member advised Police that she had returned home Monday morning with extensive damage to her vehicle which she could not explain.
Goodermote was charged at the time with Leaving the Scene of a Serious Personal Injury Accident, Operating a Vehicle While Impaired by Drugs, Driving with a Suspended Registration and Failure to Use Due Care. She was arraigned and remanded to the Rensselaer County Jail. Other charges are pending.
