September Events At The Stephentown Memorial Library

September 14, 2012 By eastwickpress

• Story Time – Wednesdays at 10 am.  Calling all preschoolers (and their caregivers)! Join us each Wednesday for some story time fun! In this half hour session, we read aloud, sing songs, move about and explore the world around us through literature. Parents and children are encouraged to stay after story time so children have time for free play while grown-ups browse for books and socialize. Story Time is led by Rebekkah Corbett, a local educator and member of the SML staff.
• Zumba Classes at SML – weekly on Wednesdays at 7 pm. Zumba is an exhilarating Latin inspired dance fitness class designed to benefit anyone, regardless of age or fitness level. Zumba Instructor Kim Conley is also a Certified Kripalu Yoga Teacher, Pilates Instructor and Personal Trainer who works with people of every age and ability all over the Berkshires. She will lead us in a one hour weekly class. Each class costs $5 per participant. Class will be held in the main room of SML. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes. There is additional parking at the school across the road. Zumba is a blast – come join the party! Class size is approximately 8 to 10.  Work out in air conditioned comfort at the Library.
• Judy Saks presents Portraits in Poetry, Part 2 – Friday, September 14, at 7 pm.  Judy Saks received her Ph.D. in Victorian Literature from the City University of New York (CUNY) in 1975.  For many years she has taught English in New York City high schools and colleges.  Following her retirement, Judy has been lecturing on poetry. For this program, “Portraits in Poetry,” Judy will present English and American works dating from the 16th to the 21st centuries and discuss their context and meaning. This is the second program in this two part series. The first session, offered in August, was a rousing success.  Attendance at the first program is not necessary to enjoy the second program. The public is welcome, and coffee will be served.  Reservations are appreciated, but not required.
• Ticket Raffle for Cabaret Show at the Theater Barn – our exciting Cabaret Show featuring Lisa Kantor to be held on Friday, September 28, at 7 pm at The Theater Barn is fast approaching.  We are currently raffling off two tickets to the benefit show.  Raffle tickets cost just $5 each, and the winner will receive two tickets to the show valued at $90! Stop in to the Library and purchase your tickets today. The drawing will be held on Friday, September 21.  If you aren’t the lucky winner, you will still have a week to purchase tickets to the show.  Cabaret show tickets are on sale now, and all proceeds directly benefit SML.  Your support of this event is appreciated!
• 2012 International Observe the Moon Night – Saturday,  September 22, at 6:30 pm. Bring the whole family and learn about the moon. Kids are invited to wear pajamas and enjoy moon related stories, make a lunar map out of Oreos and howl at the moon outside. Moon pies and juice will be served inside, and then we’ll head out to view the moon. Dress warmly and bring binoculars or telescopes, lawn chairs, flashlights and bug repellent. We will have high powered binoculars on a tripod set up for all to share. We hope to have some experts join us to help us as we view the moon. In the event of bad weather, we’ll just keep the party inside
• Local Author – Dr. Stanley Woods-Frankel – Thursday, September 27, at 7 pm.  Local author, Dr. Stanley Woods-Frankel, will read from his newly released first novel, False Impressions. The novel is the first in a macabre and humorous mystery series where forensic dentist Steve Landau and forensic psychologist Nita Lazar, assist the NYPD in investigating and capturing a serial murderer dubbed the Dracula Killer.  Dr. Stanley Woods-Frankel is a member of the American Society of Forensic Odontology (a forensic dentist!).  He has worked closely with the NYPD, written articles for professional publications, testified as an expert witness, lectured extensively and appeared on radio and TV.
