Two survival skills adult workshops will be held at the Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center this fall. Wild Edible Plants will be held on Sunday, September 30, from 10 am until 4 pm. The focus will be on seasonal acorns, nuts, seeds and roots. Identification, poisonous look-alikes, preparation and foraging etiquette will all be covered. A foraging walk will be followed by group food preparation and a shared meal.

The Magic of Fire will be held on Sunday, October 14, from 10 am until 3:30 pm. Learn how to start a fire using common available materials such as fungus, bark and an empty bottle. Make your own bow drill set, proving that you can rub two sticks together to get fire. Various ancient techniques will be covered with enough practice time to create competent and skilled fire makers.
Both workshops are for older teens and adults, beginners and more experienced alike. The fee is $20, $15 for members. Pre-registration is required and both programs are limited to 15 people. Register by contacting Dyken Pond Center at 518-658-2055 or dykenpond@fairpoint.net. Please register early.
