Holiday Dried Flower Designs To Benefit Scholarship Fund

October 26, 2012 By eastwickpress

by Gail Turi
Members of the Cambridge Area Branch of the Woman’s National Farm and Garden Association held a floral design workshop on Thursday, October 11. Several members gathered at the Wood Park meeting room to create designs using dried plant material. These arrangements, created for the fall and winter holiday season, will be sold at a Silent Auction at the Cambridge Branch of the Glens Falls National Bank. The proceeds will benefit the Branch’s Scholarship Fund.

The designs will be on display at the Bank from Tuesday, November 6, until Tuesday, November 20, at 1 pm. The winning bidders will be called on Tuesday and must arrange to pick up and pay for, by cash or check, their design either on Tuesday or Wednesday before the Bank closes.
For over 50 years members of the Cambridge Area Branch have raised money to support local, State and National Farm and Garden scholarships. Locally, scholarships are awarded to students from Hoosick Falls Central School, Cambridge Central School and/or Hoosic Valley Central School. The students must be pursuing studies in any college in the areas of earth sciences, conservation, agriculture, floriculture or marine biology.
The Branch also supports several area educational programs and, especially, the Double H Hole in the Woods Ranch in Lake Luzerne. The Ranch welcomes children with life threatening illnesses year around.
Members of the Branch meet monthly to socialize and learn about local conservation concerns. Programs are arranged to educate members about gardening, farming and related issues. Membership is open to anyone interested in learning more about these topics. For more information contact President Joan Smith at 677-8344.
