Linda J. Gentner

Pittstown – Linda J. Simpson Gentner, 64, of Tamarac Road, Pittstown, NY,  died on Tuesday, October 2, 2012, at the home of her daughter, Jeanne, surrounded by her loving family, under the care of Community Hospice of Rensselaer County.
Born in Troy, NY, on March 15, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Estella McGuire Simpson. She was the wife of the late Dennis “Butch” Gentner, who died on December 1, 1998. They were married in Grafton, NY, on June 16, 1989.
Linda attended school at St. Joseph’s Grammar School in South Troy and graduated from Troy High School. Linda worked as a Certified Nurse Assistant for many years at Daughters of Sarah and Hallmark Nursing Home. She enjoyed going to bingo and playing card games with friends and family.
Survivors include her five children, Franklin G. Etman Jr. of Rensselaer, NY, Jeanne M. and husband Bob Fish of Green Island, NY, Arthur J. and wife Marcia Etman of Green Island, Jacqueline C. Duval and David Nichols of Pittstown and Scott (Ptarmigan) Etman of Cambridge, NY, her nine siblings, James and wife Darlene Simpson of Troy, Judith and husband John Kennedy Jr. of North Carolina, Robert and wife Carol Simpson of Cohoes, NY, Estella “Bunny” Simpson of Clifton Park, NY, Mary Katherine and husband Ralph Crandall III of Johnsonville, NY, Donna Lee Simpson, Sandra Simpson and Joan Simpson of Watervliet, NY, and Keith and wife Sheila Simpson of Mechanicville, NY, along with 13 grandchildren, Frankie (Katie), Justin (Jessica), Andrew, Brittany, Matthew, Zebedee, Jael, Rhema, Mikaela, Charis Etman, Kristin Duval, Jenna Leclair and Brandon Fish, one great-granddaughter, Alivia Etman, and many nieces and nephews.
She is pre-deceased by her sister, Jeanne M. St. Pierre, and her grandson, Franklin Etman III.
The Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be celebrated by Rev. James Sidoti on Saturday, October 6, at 9:30 am in St. Joseph’s Church, 416 Third Street, South Troy. Linda’s family will receive visitors at the Church from 8:30 to 9:15 am. Inurnment will follow in the Meadowlawn Cemetery, Hewitt Road, Petersburgh, NY, where Rev. Trygve Tomlinson will officiate. Memorial contributions may be sent to The Community Hospice Foundation, 295 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer, NY, 12144, or the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hall & Higgins Funeral Home of Stephentown, NY.
