Here are a two suggestions, if you’re in the mood for reading.
Chris Bohjalian’s 15th novel, The Sandcastle Girls, gives a glimpse of his own family history. His Armenian grandparents were survivors of the Armenian genocide by Turkey. The story unfolds when the granddaughter of an Armenian-Bostonian investigates the genocide and discovers the guilty secret her grandmother took to her grave.
And if you wonder what exactly it is your kids are talking about when they mention The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, why not check this book out for yourself; you might get just as hooked as your teenager. A boy and girl, between the ages of 12-18 are selected from each district and must fight a deadly game in an outdoor arena, allowing only one survivor.
