Upcoming Events At The Stephentown Memorial Library

October 26, 2012 By eastwickpress

• Halloween Party – The Stephentown Youth Commission and the Stephentown Memorial Library invite you to a Halloween Party at the Library on Saturday, October 27, at 2:30 pm. There will be lots of fun activities, including pumpkin painting, crafts, stories, songs and yummy refreshments. We will also be showing the movie, “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.” Children are encouraged to wear their costumes or bring them along to change into them. All children will receive a goody bag! To ensure that we have enough materials, please call the Library to register for the event at 733-5750.
• Community Potluck Dinner – The Friends of SML invite the public to join them for a fun and lively evening at the Library on Sunday, November 4, at 4 pm. Bring a dish to share and visit with your friends and neighbors. Musical entertainment TBA. This is a free event and all are welcome!
• Stephentown Veterans Rededication Ceremony – Wednesday, November 7, at 7 pm. Come out and join us as we rededicate the Stephentown Memorial Library to the veterans of our town.
The present library had its origin at a meeting of the Stephentown War Council in May, 1946, when Lewis Griffin presented plans for the formation of a library to honor the local men and women who had served in the armed forces in the two world wars. These plans were formalized on September 9, 1946, when a group met to organize the Stephentown Memorial Library. Seven trustees were elected. The names of the 50 men and women who served in W.W. I and the 104 W.W. II veterans to whom the library is dedicated are listed on plaques which hung in the vestibule of the Library until the recent expansion.
During this special celebration, we will be re-hanging the refurbished plaques in our Community Room to honor our veterans. Refreshments will be served. Children are especially encouraged to come and meet the Stephentown veterans and hear about their service.
For more information, call the Stephentown Memorial Library at 733-5750. Check our website,www.stephentownlibrary.org for regular updates.
