Friends of the Cheney Library were dressed in their holiday best for what they hope will be their first annual “Love Your Library Festival of Wreaths” Saturday evening, November 3. The Immaculate Conception Church hall was decorated with white holiday lights, adding a festive air to the event. The 130 people who attended enjoyed delicious sweets, beautiful violin music and had plenty of time to browse past the 40 wreaths to be auctioned.
[private]Each wreath was imaginative and had something special to offer. Several wreaths included gift certificates, including a one hour massage gift certificate. Another wreath was accompanied by a wine rack and a bottle of wine. Other wreaths contained knitted items, jewelry, quilted holiday decorations, ribbons, birds, bows and on and on. There was also a beautiful Christmas quilt that was auctioned.

Each wreath was held by Peggy Neville and described by Friends President Jaimi Tudor. Auctioneer Kyle Siefert wasted no time on the bidding. He kept it moving right along, with plenty of laughs thrown in.
The event was undoubtedly a huge success and probably raised over $3,000 for the Library. The funds will be used to create a young children’s book and reading room in the lower level of the Library. Moving the young children downstairs will free up space on the main floor for more activities.
The Cheney Library, part of the Upper Hudson Library System, opened in 1923 and contains over 50,000 books.
