On a recent Sunday morning in October, Sustainable Stephentown organized a dozen energetic volunteers to plant and distribute 1,000 daffodil bulbs throughout Stephentown. A local citizen generously donated the bulbs in support of Sustainable Stephentown’s efforts to beautify the Town.

The bulbs, which include early, mid and late spring blooms, were given free of charge to businesses and private homes, mostly along Routes 22 and 43, and were planted at the Town Park, the Stephentown Memorial Library, Madden’s Service Center and Down in Denver Book Store. Other locations where the daffodils will be planted include The Berry Patch, Stephentown Heritage Center, the Veterans Memorial Park, Sykes’ Store and at the former satellite TV store (soon to be a new local business).
The group is looking for a donation of a yard or two of mulch to cover the daffodil planting beds and asks that anyone interested in donating mulch contact Kevin Carpenter at the phone number below.
Sustainable Stephentown is an open group of people interested in creating a revitalized, vibrant future that works for everyone – a thriving community with local businesses, jobs, services and recreational opportunities. Other projects under consideration include creating a food cooperative, attracting a grocery store and participating in discussions about whether and how the school building and grounds should be re-used for the community’s benefit.
Anyone interested in Stephentown’s future is encouraged to attend Sustainable Stephentown meetings. The next meeting is on November 15 at the Stephentown Memorial Library at 7 pm when the group will begin planning for 2013.
