The Berlin Middle School/High School Honors Veterans At Assembly

The Berlin Middle School/High School held an assembly to honor area veterans on Friday, November 16. This is “A day to honor our veterans who live in Berlin, Grafton, Petersburgh and Stephentown for the service and commitment you have given to our country,” said High School Principal Cathy Allain.
[private]The assembly was organized by a group of volunteer students who also prepared and showed a video they had created. The theme was appreciation of veterans, and it featured interviews they had done in which the interviewees responded to questions such as What if we had no one to serve or no veterans? Do you appreciate what these veterans have done for us? How do you show that appreciation?
Allain turned over the podium to senior Reid Bascoe to introduce the veterans attending. Bascoe completed US Army Basic Training this past summer. Following graduation next June he will report to Fort Eustis, VA, for Advanced Individual Training working with Observation-Scout Helicopters.
Nineteen veterans were attending, eight representing the Army, five Marines, four Navy and two Air Force. There were six from Berlin, five from Stephentown, four from Grafton and four from Petersburgh.
“You represent just a fraction of the people in our communities who have also served,” Allain said. “Please extend to those friends of yours and members of your posts that at Berlin we greatly appreciate your service, and we are very grateful for all that you do in continuing to serve our communities.”
Following the assembly, coffee, muffins and other refreshments were served by Dianne Mosher’s Catering Class.

The student body rose and cheered as the veterans marched into the auditorium at Berlin Middle School/High School. It was the school’s third annual Assembly in appreciation of veterans. (David Flint photo)
