Hoosick Falls Holiday Celebrations Begin

December 14, 2012 By eastwickpress

Santa Visited Hoosick Falls
by Bea Peterson
Last Friday evening was chilly and damp, but it didn’t stop crowds from turning out to see the Christmas tree in the bandstand in Wood Park officially lighted. The costumed kids brought smiles to everyone’s face. There were wrapped packages, a flock of sheep, a lighted train engine with two cars and many more. [private]HAYC3 awarded prizes to the Most Festive – Ayla Fauler, Cutest – Andrew Wickenden and Most Original – Girl Scout Troop 1259.
Santa (bearing a strong resemblance to Dave Kipp) arrived in a fire truck decorated with holiday lights. And then, with a countdown by Jason Jensen, the lights on the tree came on! Once the lights were on everyone lined up behind Santa, and the fire truck and the parade traveled along Main to John to Church Streets, ending at the Armory.

For the first time in years people walked in the front door of the Armory. Little fairy lights guided visitors through a maze that ended in Santa’s lovely parlor where at least a couple hundred children, one at a time, told Santa of their desires for Christmas.

This little elf was the first to sit on Santa's knee on Friday, December 7. After walking through a maze of fairy lights, she arrived in Santa's parlor, complete with a map of the world on his desk, toys, a tree and his cup of hot chocolate sitting by his list of good little girls and boys. It was a lovely event, well organized by HAYC3. In turn HAYC3 expressed its appreciation to Santa, the Hoosick Falls Fire Department and the Hoosick Falls Police Department for making the tree lighting and Santa visit go so smoothly.
