A stretch of Route 22 was closed off for about eight hours on Monday, January 7. According to a New York State Police report, Troopers responded to a domestic dispute call off of Route 22 in the Town of Hoosick in White Creek, to be more precise. The report stated the State Police received assistance from the Village of Hoosick Falls Police Department, the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Department, and New York Environmental Conservation Police.

Upon law enforcement’s arrival, Gates made threats toward himself and responding officers then refused to exit the residence. State Police crisis negotiators communicated with Gates for several hours during which time Gates refused to exit the residence. Entry to the residence was initially made with the use of robotic surveillance equipment which located Gates in an upstairs bedroom with an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The State Police Special Operations Response Team then immediately secured the residence and initiated life saving measures. Gates was transported to Albany Medical Center by the Cambridge Valley Rescue Squad where he was listed in grave condition,” the State Police report said.
On Tuesday Albany Medical Center Hospital said that Keith Gates had died.[/private]
