Panther Boys Basketball Turns Back Late MAU Run

January 18, 2013 By eastwickpress

by Ben Gaines
The Varsity Boys Basketball team took the floor after the JV team beat MAU 42 to 26 Monday evening, January 14. Andrew Hoag drew first blood at 7:17, and for the rest of the quarter it was Austin Pitt and Randy Tutunjian who kept scoring. HF led at the end of the first quarter at 11 to 2.

MAU, coached by Dan Sleeman was 0 for 8 coming to Hoosick Falls, but junior James Levin was able to pump life into MAU by sinking 4 of his 7 foul shots and a three-pointer, and Evan Sparta scored 2 points. Falls ended the half leading 22 to 11 with a tremendous rebounding effort from Levi Brewster on the offensive end for the Panthers.
The third quarter was more physical, and then the game turned into a shooting match with Lilac taking Brewster off to add another shooter. Rebounding was all nonexistent with Falls having 5 in the second half. HFCS missed 11 shots in the half.
The final quarter went down to 4:29 before Falls would score. During this time Mount Anthony went on a 6-0 run. MAU played a four man substitution to wear down the Panthers, and it worked. MAU scored more in the fourth than in the first quarter and came within 4 points, but it would be too little too late. The Panthers continued taking shots and ran down the clock to claw out a 46 to 40 win giving them a three game win streak against MAU.
Falls traveled to Hoosic Valley on Wednesday (no results by press time) in hopes of avenging an early season loss. Friday, January 18,  they play Greenwich at home.
