Boy Scout Troop 222 provided several scouts and leaders to help with a spaghetti dinner held at the Petersburgh Veterans Memorial Community Center for the Votra family on December 14. Many Community members came together to assist with the fundraiser that Friday night. Since the Votra family lost their house to a fire on November 26 the community has risen to the challenge. Over 200 meals were served and all the funds raised go directly to the family.
[private]Louise Harrison took the lead and gathered donations of spaghetti, bread and sauce together with Scott Matson who acted as the chief cook that night the dinners were prepared and served.
Many families came and had dinner in the Hall but many took orders to go. The Scouts of Troop 222 were ready and willing to help in any way they could. The Scouts wanted to do something to help the family. Scout James Akers, Mike Zlotnick, Trever Hall and Josh Kluck along with Leaders Scout Master Jim Akers and Committeeman Andy Zlotnick all volunteered to serve, setup and clean up for the dinner.
The Scouts got to give back to a community that has been very supportive of them and to be able to help a local family at the same time.
There were many people who helped and/or donated to the fundraiser. If you still want to help you can send a donation to Our lady of the Snow Parish in Grafton which is acting as the lead organization. Send your donation to Votra Fire Victims Fund in care of the St. John Francis Regis Church. P.O. Box 234, Grafton, NY, 12082.
