On Thursday, January 31, family gathered at The Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation at Hoosick Falls to help Ralph and Doris Elwell celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary. Failing health has moved Doris from their home on Potter Hill to the Center where Ralph visits her every day.
[private]The couple met when Doris was 11 and Ralph was 13. They were married years later on January 31, 1953, at the Church of the Holy Name in Boytonville. Ralph served in the military and worked for the Rensselaer Highway Department. Doris was a homemaker and worked for a time at Hoosick Falls Central School. The couple have seven children, 24 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren. Both were active members of the Bennington VFW and enjoyed taking trips all over the country with the VFW.
On hand to help the couple celebrate their anniversary was their youngest child Sandra Beardsley and her husband Roy, granddaughter Samantha Green, granddaughter and great-grandson Sarah Yetto and Gavin, daughter-in-law and granddaughter Josie Elwell and Renee and several other members of their large family.
