Berlin – Stephen J. Kellar, 47, of Park Avenue, Berlin, NY, died peacefully at his home on Tuesday evening, February 12, 2013, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Bennington, VT, on October 22, 1965, Steve was a lifelong resident of Berlin, was a 1983 graduate of Berlin Central High School and a member of the Berlin United Methodist Church. He enlisted in the United States Army on July 5, 1983. Steve worked at W. J. Cowee, Co., Inc. after being honorably discharged. He worked at various jobs through the years. He worked last at the Crescent Manor Nursing Home in Bennington in their maintenance department, retiring in May of 2010 due to illness. He was a life member of the Berlin Volunteer Fire Company and a former member of the Rensselaer County Auxiliary Police and the Berlin Rescue Squad.
Survivors include his loving wife, Barbara A. Bentley Kellar, whom he married on August 26, 1989 in the Seventh Day Baptist Church in Berlin, his children, Tiffany E. and husband Chadd Kiablick and Courtney L. Kellar, his granddaughter, Alicia R. Kiablick (Grandpa’s pride and joy), his parents, John and JoAnn Michaels Kellar, all of Berlin, his two sisters, Tammy J. and husband Bill Osterhout of Berlin, Sherri L. and husband Jim Willis of Stephentown, NY, and his in-laws, Richard and Josie Bentley of Berlin, along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services with full fire departmental honors will be held on Saturday, February 16, at 1 pm in the Berlin United Methodist Church, 17 South Main Street, Berlin, where Pastor Joy Lowenthal will officiate. Interment will follow in the Berlin Community Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to the Church for visitation on Saturday from 11 to 12:45 pm.
Steve’s family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made in his memory to the National Kidney Foundation, www.kidney.org, or to the Rubin Dialysis Clifton Park Center, 21 Crossings Blvd., Suite B Clifton Park, NY, 12065. Arrangements are under the direction of the Thomas M. Barber Funeral Home of Petersburgh, NY.
