Berlin – Walter “Cobb” Weber, age 82, died peacefully on February 12, 2013. He was born on February 23, 1930, in Coney Island, NY, to the late Dorothy Ahlquist. A lifelong resident of Berlin, NY, he is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Beverly.
Cobb was an accomplished carpenter and worked in various construction sites for over 30 years. When he wasn’t swinging the hammer or cutting a board, as a licensed barber, he would be cutting hair.
Cobb was an incredibly talented man working with wood who was always willing to help others, from building homes to birdhouses. He loved the outdoors, sports and the sense of completion. In 1982 and 1984 Cobb was the Vermont State Horseshoe Tournament Men’s Division Runner-up. He was an avid hunter and loved to play golf. He was a music enthusiast, from dancing to playing the drums or his favorite instrument, the banjo.
For someone whose father abandoned him at birth, Cobb set a great example of what a father should be. He was honorable, responsible and a hardworking provider who always put his family as his number one priority.
What Cobb cherished the most in life were the experiences he shared with his family and creating the wonderful memories that all those who were fortunate enough to be a part of that group will cherish the rest of their lives.
In addition to his wife Beverly, Cobb is survived by his daughter, JoAnn (Weber) Pierce and her husband Brett of Clifton Park, NY, his son, Eric Weber and his wife Christine of Gansevoort, NY, his step-children, Randy Stevens and his wife Earline of Fort Edward, NY, Kevin Stevens and his wife Theresa of Berlin and Laurie (Stevens) Woodcock of East Greenbush, NY. Cobb also leaves behind his grandchildren, Stacy and her husband Gabriel Dowling, Matthew Weber, Danielle and Samantha Weber, Jessie Stevens, Dalton Stevens, Wyatt and Taylor Woodcock and Derek and Daniel Cantwell, and a great-grandson, Connor Dowling. They will all miss their Pop Pop greatly! Cobb also leaves behind his good friend and former wife, Madeline (Jones) Henrikson and her husband Ronald of Wynantskill, NY.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Cobb’s Life on Saturday, February 16, at 11 am at the First Baptist Church located at 15 Main Street, Berlin. There will be no public calling hours, and the family asks that in lieu of flowers contributions be made in his memory to the Community Hospice, 295 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer, NY, 12144.
