The Election Officers for the Stephentown Memorial Library’s vote to become a special legislative district library have announced that the outcome is too close to call and will be decided based on a count of absentee ballots. [private]There were 371 ballots cast at the Library yesterday and 29 absentee ballots counted on election night. The election night unofficial tally was 208 opposed and 192 in favor.
There are 23 absentee ballots not yet received. Any absentee ballot that is postmarked by March 18, the day before the election, and received up until March 26, the seventh day after the election, will be counted. Received absentee ballots will be counted by Election Officials on March 26 at the Stephentown Memorial Library at 3 pm.
In the meantime, the Board of Trustees wants to thank the residents of Stephentown for their ongoing support and participation. Library Director Laurenne Teachout said, “It was wonderful to see people of the Town arriving, despite the snowstorm, to cast their vote.”[/private]
