After its workshop meeting on Tuesday evening, March 19, with Philip Koziol, PE, and Richard Laberge, PE, President of Laberge Group, the Town of Hoosick Board had a somewhat better picture of what it will take to maintain, improve or change the Town Pool. [private]The study undertaken by Laberge gave options for the pool’s rehabilitation or replacement with estimated costs.
If the pool is to remain the same size, then it would have to be relined with either fiberglass, vinyl or marcite. Fiberglass is the least expensive option with an estimated cost of $440,000, and marcite is the most expensive at a cost of $569,000.
Should the Board choose to replace the pool Laberge offered the option of a new marcite pool 82 feet by 66 feet for a cost of $875,000, three fiberglass pools at $575,000 or three vinyl lined pools at $525,000. These costs include $175,000 in all that would be required for excavation, new deck, code requirements, building modifications, engineering, permitting and construction services and a construction contingency.
This workshop was a very preliminary look at what may be required in the future. Board members agreed that before any decision of any kind is considered they would like to know the underlying condition of the pool. They requested Laberge find a company to do subsurface imaging so they know exactly what the ground conditions are under the pool and if it can be rehabilitated.
Tom Margiotta and Louis Schmigel also attended the meeting. Margiotta’s opinion of the three pool idea was that it was three times the headache of one pool.
Discussion also continued regarding grants, the Town’s reserve fund, bonding the project as well as what other options might be available.
Patch It Up
What Laberge suggested was that, for this year, the pool once again be patched up to last through the 2013 season.[/private]
