John Hickey

Hoosick Falls – John “Ersel” Hickey, 70, passed away on Monday, February 25, 2013, at his residence surrounded by his family. He had resided on McCaffery Street in Hoosick Falls, NY, with his wife Sue (Harrington) Hickey.
ob-John HickeyBorn on September 17, 1942, in Hoosick Falls, John was the son of the late John and Jessie (Wright) Hickey. He graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Hoosick Falls, where he later coached basketball. He worked at St. Gobain in Hoosick Falls and drove a school bus for the Hoosick Falls Central School. John also served on the the Hoosick Falls Village Board, the Hoosick Area Youth Center Board and the Hoosick Federal Credit Union Board. John influenced many youngsters’ lives, either through coaching at St. Mary’s Academy and Hoosac School or driving the school bus. He loved sports and was an avid Cleveland Browns and Los Angles Dodgers fan.
Survivors, other than his wife Sue, include his daughter, Katy and husband Michael Lilac Jr., his sons, Jeffrey Hickey and wife Rhonda and Michael Hickey and wife Angela, all of Hoosick Falls, his brother, Richard Hickey and wife Nancy of Matthews, NC, and his grandchildren, Alex and Hannah Lilac and Remington, Lillian, Tatum and Oliver Hickey.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, March 2, at 10 am from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will follow the Mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hoosick Falls. Relatives and friends may call at the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090, on Friday March 1, from 4 to 7 pm.
Memorial contributions may be made to either the Eddie C. Memorial Fund or the Karen McGovern Memorial Fund through the funeral home.
