The Hoosick Falls St. Patrick’s Parade And Irish Festival Is This Weekend

March 15, 2013 By eastwickpress

submitted by Kevin O’Malley
The Hoosick Falls St. Patrick’s Parade and Irish Festival will celebrated its 22nd Anniversary on March 16, 2013. Twenty-one years ago, local Irishmen Mike Conway and TJ Carmody wanted to find a way to keep the Irish culture and history alive in the Hoosick area and decided that a parade was the ticket!
Join us this year as we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and honor the student athletes of Hoosick Falls Central School. [private]Prior to step-off Greg Laurin, President of the Hoosick Falls Central School Board, will take a few moments to speak to the culture of excellence that has developed in our community. As evidenced by the success of our athletic teams both on and off the field, Hoosick Falls, as a community, has raised the level of expectation, not just for our student athletes but for every individual who strives to make them better students, better athletes and better people.
We begin the day at 1 pm with the Parade with over 50 Marching Units and Floats followed by the Irish Fest. After the Parade people can take in the entertainment at the Hoosick Falls Armory featuring the James Patrick Murphy An Clare School of Irish Dance, The Galloway Gaelic Pipe Band and the Taconic Pipe Band.
Participating bands in this year’s parade are The Hoosick Falls High School Band, Olde Saratoga Fyfes and Drums, Taconic Pipe Band, Berkshire Highlanders Pipe Band, Galloway Gaelic Pipes and Drums, Excelsior Drum Corps, Capitol Brass Drum Corps and The Scotia Glenville Pipe Band.
The history of St. Patrick’s parades in Hoosick Falls dates back to when Irish immigrants made their way to Hoosick Falls in the mid-1800s and ended sometime in the 1950s to be revived in 1991. The Parade will begin in Wood Park, go down Main Street, John Street, Church Street, Willard Street and back down Main Street.
