Whitney “Bud” Rathbun

Berlin – Whitney H. “Bud” Rathbun, 82, of Green Hollow Road, Berlin, NY, died peacefully on Thursday, March 7, 2013, at Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY, surrounded by his loving family.
ob-rathbun.jpegBorn in Pittsfield, MA, on May 30, 1930, he was the son of the late Howard and Doris Main Rathbun. Whitney was the loving husband of the former Flora A. “Nancy” Lucas, whom he married in Coggeshall, Essex, England, on June 5, 1954.
A life-long resident of Berlin, Bud was of the Baptist faith. He attended Berlin High School and worked for W. J. Cowee, Co., Inc. in Berlin before enlisting in the United States Air Force. He served from 1950 to 1955 before being honorably discharged. He returned to W. J. Cowee, Co., Inc. after his service commitment. He retired in 1995 after 45 total years of service. He was a member of the Taconic Valley American Legion and the Berlin Senior Citizens. He was a former member of the Berlin Volunteer Fire Co. He and his wife traveled to England many times to visit his wife’s family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and any outdoor activity.
Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Flora “Nancy,” his four sons, Roy W. and his wife Teri  Rathbun of Chesapeake, VA, Wade H. Rathbun, George H. and his wife Nettie Rathbun and Orlo L. and his wife Darlene Rathbun, his grandchildren, Jordon, Brandon, Ryan and Shayla Rathbun, along with nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by siblings, Sandra Weeden and Murray W. Rathbun.
Funeral services were held on Monday, March 11, in the Thomas M. Barber Funeral Home in Petersburgh. Interment followed in the Berlin Community Cemetery.
Relatives and friends were invited to the funeral home on Monday before the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice in loving memory of Whitney H. “Bud” Rathbun.
