Hoosick – Edward A. Hanselman, 88, of Bovie Hill Road, Hoosick, NY, passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2013, in Bennington, VT. He was the husband of the late Jane (Lovell) Hanselman; they were married in 1945.
Born on September 10, 1924, Edward was the youngest child of William Hanselman Sr. and Regina (La Madeline) Hanselman. He was educated in Hoosick Falls schools. Edward enlisted in the Army Corps of Engineers in 1942 and spent twenty-two months 120 miles above the Artic Circle in Greenland with an engineer company assigned to the Air Force. He obtained the rank of Technical Staff Sergeant.
After discharge he was employed at the Noble & Wood Machine Company in Hoosick Falls, NY, and became a journeyman wood patternmaker. In 1958 he went to Eddy Valve in Waterford, NY, working as a patternmaker. By 1961 he was working for the original Dodge Fibers Company on John Street in Hoosick Falls. He stayed with the company until 1967 when he went to work for Dodge Machine Company. While there Ed, Ken Gifford, a company engineer, and the concept originator, John O’Rear, received a U.S. patent for the Aerovane.
In 1973 he was back to Oak Industries in Hoosick Falls and became Manager of the Extruded Tapes Department at Liberty Street. After seven years as Manager he returned to Dodge Machine as a design draftsman working on safety equipment until he retired in 1986.
Survivors include his children, Linda Horstmyer of Schenectady, NY, Caroline Hanselman of New Orleans, LA, and Michael Hanselman and his wife Priscilla and William Hanselman and his wife Mary Ann, all of Hoosick Falls, as well as eleven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by a sister, Mary D’Jneres, and two brothers, Henry and William Hanselman Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, April 19, at 10 am from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may call at the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090, on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society in Shaftsbury, VT, through the funeral home.
