Girl Scout Troop 1070 Visits NYC And Attends International Fair

April 26, 2013 By eastwickpress

Troop 1070 had a busy week-end. On Saturday, April 20, some girls from Troop 1070 went on a Scavenger Hunt in NYC along with some other troops in the GSNENY area.
[private]They had to find answers to trivia questions given to them.  After each question was answered correctly, they would get another question. By answering each question, they earned points.

In doing so they learned about the library in NYC and where to find certain places and articles.
They were drawn to some architecture and some history on buildings, in buildings and on the sidewalks themselves. They had to visit the M&M store, take their picture in Grand Central Station and with a NYC police officer. The girls did a great job. Proudly, with 250 points,  the girls from Troop 1070 won first place in the scavenger hunt!
After the hunt they enjoyed some “free time” in Toys R us, most of them riding on the indoor Ferris Wheel and some other sight-seeing and shopping.
International Fair
On Sunday, April 21, the girls then participated in the Southern Regional International Fair at HVCC. This was an event that they had worked on all year.
By being an exhibitor, the girls had to create visual displays, wear costumes and make a food/drink representing their country.
The girls represented Colombia, which was an honor with one of the mom’s helpers being from Colombia.
Thinking Day
The International Fair is in honor of Thinking Day, celebrated every February 22.  It is a tradition where the Girl Scouts and Girl Guides all over the world take a moment to send mental messages of friendship to their sister Girl Scouts. Thinking Day is the birthday of Lord Baden-Powell, the founder of the Boy Scouts, and his wife, Lady Baden-Powell, who was the World Chief Guide of the Girl Guide/Girl Scout movement.
