Barbara Carr Ellis

May 3, 2013 By eastwickpress

Grafton – Barbara Carr Ellis, 74, died Saturday, April 27, 2013, surrounded by her family, at the Samaritan Hospital in Troy, NY, after a long and courageous battle with ovarian cancer.
ob-Ellis, Barbara photoBorn in Williamstown, MA, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Mary Louise LaCasse Carr. She resided in Eagle Mills for many years before moving to Grafton in 1990. Barb had been employed as a bank teller and then became an independent home health aide for several people, whom she befriended and treated with respect and gentle care. She served as an election inspector in Grafton and was a member of the Troy Senior Center. She was a longtime communicant of the former St. John Francis Regis Church, now Our Lady of The Snow, in Grafton.
Barbara was dedicated to her family and home. She always looked forward to any family get together and is noted to have said recently that she has “the best family ever.” She enjoyed cooking, decorating, gardening, shopping, traveling and using her computer. She would frequent Facebook to see new pictures and posts of family and friends, play some games and chat with everyone. A great joy for Barbara was her beloved feral cat, Baby, who was found separated from her mother and alone in the road. The Ellis family nursed and raised the cat from only a few days old, and she is one spoiled and happy cat today.
A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she is survived by her beloved soul mate and husband of 57 years, John D. Ellis, her loving daughters, Kathleen and husband Robert Masterson of Pittstown, NY, Deborah Ellis-Nailor of New Hampshire and Jacqueline Ellis of Grafton, her six cherished grandchildren, Ryan, Kelley, Jennifer, Joshua, Nathan and Kayla, a great-grandchild expected in September and her sister, Moira Jean and husband Wayne Hawk of Saratoga Springs, NY. She is the sister in law of Nancy (formerly married to the late Charles Hathaway) and her husband Michael Mahoney, Patricia Green and her late husband Brian, William and wife Lynn Ellis, Judith Tate and her late husband Ronald, Donna and husband Charles Alexander and Joseph Sprague, Jr., as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. She is pre-deceased by her sister, Mary Lou (Pat) Cariddi.
A celebration of Barb’s life will be held at a later date. At her request, there will be no calling hours. Donations, in memory of Barb, may be made to Community Hospice of Rensselaer County, 295 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer, NY, 12144, or the Mohawk and Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Avenue, Menands, NY, 12204.
