Thomas Restino, Sr., Grand Marshal
American Legion Post #40 has selected Thomas Restino, Sr. to be Memorial Day Parade Grand Marshal.

Restino served in the US Navy during the Korean War and is well recognized in the community as Hoosick Post #40 Commander and Chaplain. Restino has been a Hoosick Falls Village Trustee, Hoosick Town Supervisor and Town Justice and Rensselaer County Legislator.
Memorial Day Rites in the Village of Hoosick Falls will begin on Monday, May 27, with the raising of the Flag by American Legion Command Bernie Guerard at Maple Grove and St. Mary’s Cemeteries
At 8 am the Flag will be raised at Wood Memorial Park with a salute by the American Legion, the Legion Auxiliary and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
At 8:15 am the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Legion Auxiliaries, accompanied by the Hoosick Falls High School Band will assemble at the corner of Main St. and Wilder Ave. and march to the Shop Bridge to honor men of the Navy who lost their lives at sea. The Legion will again fire a volley and taps will be sounded.
The Parade Committee, with Legion parade chairman Don Bogardus, will honor the dead of the Civil War at Monument Park, located at the junction of Classic and High Streets at 8:45 am.
At 9:15 am Veterans from VFW Hoosick Barracks 152, World War Veterans and the American Legion, accompanied by VFW and American Legion Auxiiaries will assemble at the World War I and Veterans Memorial located in Wood Memorial Park. Wreaths will be placed at both WWI, WWII, Korean and Vietnam monuments. The wreaths will be placed by VFW and American Legion Auxiliary President Arlene Guerard. Lmerican Legion Chaplain Joe Ruggiero will offer a prayer.
Parade
The parade, under the direction of long time Director Donald Bogardus and consisting of four units, will assemble at 9:15 am and step off sharply at 10.
The line of march will proceed down John Street and up Church Street to the HAYC3 Armory and the Town of Hoosick Community Center, where it will pause for a brief tribute to the men and women who served during World War II. The Line of March will then continue to the intersection of Main Street. At this point a momentary pause will be held while Pastor Michael Benoit offers a prayer for deceased Veterans. The American Legion Honor Guard will fire a volley and taps will be played by a member of the HFCS Band. The parade will continue down Main Street, marching into Wood Memorial Park. All units are asked to march into the Park and to remain assembled while Master of Ceremonies, Hoosick Falls Village Trustee Ben Patten, followed by Hoosick Town Supervisor Keith Cipperly and Hoosick Falls Mayor David Borge deliver official welcomes.
A few Words of Remembrance will be spoken during the ceremonies by Rensselaer County Legislator Stan Brownell and representatives from the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Legion Auxiliaries and principal speaker Rensselaer County Legislator Lester Goodermote.
At the closing of the ceremony the American Legion Honor Guard, under the command of Legion Squad Commander Walter Zwinge, will fire a Volley Salute. Taps will be sounded, followed by chimes from St. Mark’s Church playing “America.”
Father Tom Zelker, Pastor of Immaculate Conception Church will give the invocation and Rev. Mike Benoit, Pastor of the Cornerstone Fellowship Church, will pronounce the Benediction in unity with other hometown clergy.
The program will close with the “National Anthem,” played by the HFCS Band, under the direction of Robert Allen.
