The Panthers’ Girls Lacrosse Has Busy Week

May 3, 2013 By eastwickpress

by Steve Bradley
As their season winds down, the Panther Ladies lacrosse team was busy as they faced Johnstown on Friday, Holy Names on Monday and Emma Willard on Tuesday.
In Friday’s under-the-lights action against the Johnstown Lady Bills, the Ladies were down just one at the half, 7-6, but eventually fell by a score of 13-9. Keri Wilkins scored 3 goals, with Hannah Fricke and Jordyn Haynes each putting two in the net. Dana O’Malley had one. Kara LaFlamme had twelve saves for the Panthers.

Facing the Academy of the Holy Names, who apparently don’t have a nickname, on Monday, the Ladies were again right in the thick of things at the half. By the end of the game, however, Holy Names had pulled away to record a 19-9 win. Madison Guglielmoni scored four goals; Jordyn Haynes had three; Keri Wilkins and Caytlyn Springer each had one. Kara LaFlamme had nine saves in goal.
On Tuesday, the Ladies traveled to Troy to take on the Emma Willard Jesters. The Panthers fell by score of 13-7. Hannah Fricke led the Panther scoring with three goals, Madison Guglielmoni chipped in two and Keri Wilkins and Catherine Charbonneau each tallied one. Kara LaFlamme had 10 saves in the goal.
The Lady Panthers now stand at 3-6 on the season.
Girls lacrosse consists of two twenty-five minutes halves with a ten minute halftime break. A lacrosse stick is called a crosse. The pocket of a girls crosse is not as deep as in boys lacrosse. In girls lacrosse, only eye protection and mouth guards are required as no contact is allowed compared to the constant contact of the boys game.
Over the next week, the Ladies will play Schenectady home on  Monday, May 6,  (4:15 pm) and Albany Academy home on Wednesday, May 8, (4:15 pm).
