Trischka’s avant garde banjo stylings have inspired a generation of progressive bluegrass musicians. Considered among the very best pickers, he is also one of the instrument’s top teachers, having created numerous instructional books, teaching video tapes and cassettes.
Tony Trischka grew up in Syracuse, NY, and was inspired to play the banjo in 1963 whilst listening to the Kingston Trio’s folk classic “Charlie and The MTA.” Over the course of his 35 year career, he has performed and recorded with many accomplished musicians – Steve Martin, Doc Watson, the Boston Pops and others. His recording Double Banjo Bluegrass Spectacular received IBMA awards for Recorded Event of the Year, Instrumental Album of the Year and a Grammy Nomination.
Trischka’s band includes Darol Anger, fiddle, and Michael Daves, guitar. Anger is a fiddle guru who spent three decades reinventing American string music to encompass his explorations of bluegrass, jazz and music from around the world. Daves, who is of a younger generation of bluegrass musicians, plays regularly with Tony Trischka in addition to his own solo and duo work.
Tickets for the Tony Trischka Territory Concert can be purchased at www.ps21chatham.org, by calling 1-800-838-3006 or at the door until the show sells out. Tickets cost $30, $25 for members and $18 for students. PS21: Performance Spaces for the 21st Century is a not-for-profit organization located at 2980 NY Rt. 66 in Chatham.
