Fatal Accident In Cherry Plain

June 21, 2013 By eastwickpress

by David Flint
A Cherry Plain woman lost her life last Thursday night when struck by a car as she walked along Route 22. State Police from the Schodack barracks reported that at approximately 9:15 pm on June 13 a 2005 Chrysler operated by Douglas S. Homiak, age 22 of Berlin, was heading south on Route 22 less than a half mile south of Bly Hollow Road. [private]Homiak failed to negotiate a slight curve in the roadway and traveled across the west shoulder, striking Kay ten Kraft, age 62, who lived nearby and was walking along the side of the road. Kraft was treated at the scene by the Berlin Rescue Squad and transported to Berkshire Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.
Police reported that because of the heavy rains moving through the area that evening visibility and road conditions were extremely poor. State Police Senior Investigator Andy Crowe said on Wednesday that no charges have been filed against Homiak but the investigation is ongoing.
